Frequently Asked Questions
Protection Levels describe how coverage and coordination scale—from protecting one exposed person to coordinating protection across large, complex work zones and multiple deployments. They are not product packages or bundles. Each level is designed for a different operational scope and risk profile.
Yes. All Protection Levels use radar‑based speed detection.
Every deployment includes a radar cone that monitors approaching vehicle speed and triggers alerts when defined thresholds are crossed. Speed recognition is foundational at every level.
Both Single‑Operator and Crew Coverage use a single RoadDefender unit mounted on a vehicle and rely on radar‑based speed and intrusion detection.
The difference is who is being protected:
- Single‑Operator Coverage is designed for lone workers and inspectors.
- Crew Coverage supports multiple people present at the same time with coordinated alerts.
Camera‑based analytics are introduced at the Work Zone Coverage level and above.
The camera does not replace radar. It adds additional context for complex traffic behavior, improves alert coordination across multiple units, and enhances visibility and traceability at the zone level.
Work Zone Coverage is designed for larger crews and wider areas where a single unit is not sufficient.
Multiple RoadDefender units mounted on multiple vehicles allow for:
- A wider protection radius
- Coverage across longer or more complex zones
- Coordinated alerting for larger crews (for example, paving crews of approximately 16 people)
Organization‑Wide Coverage is used when Work Zone Coverage is not sufficient.
It supports very large or complex work zones, multiple active zones at the same time, and standardized protection across crews, projects, or regions, while alerts continue to be processed locally at the edge.
No. Protection Levels are not pricing tiers and do not represent commercial packages. Pricing and scope are determined during a short scoping conversation after a quote request.
No. RoadDefender does not generate scheduled compliance reports or automated regulatory submissions.
The system provides visibility and traceability through time‑stamped event records that support operational review when needed.
RoadDefender deployments are offered as Early Access. This reflects late‑stage field validation in real operating environments. Deployments include dedicated support and coordinated updates as reliability continues to be finalized.
Updates may occur during Early Access as the system continues to harden. Any updates are coordinated to avoid operational disruption and are supported by dedicated technical assistance.
The appropriate Protection Level is typically determined during a short scoping discussion based on crew size, work duration, zone complexity, operating conditions, and coverage needs. The goal is to match the level of protection to the real operational environment.
Yes. Many organizations begin with a smaller coverage scope and expand as operational needs evolve or additional crews and zones are brought under protection.
